rice noodles

you may not know this, or maybe you do, but G served his mission in australia. vietnamese speaking. there was probably nothing more disarming, or terrifying, depending on your personality as a vietnamese person - than to meet a 6'4" redhead speaking your language asking if you wanted to learn about the true church.

when we first started dating, i remember he really wanted me to try vietnamese food. i was like uh, no. i still didn't even eat vegatables of ANY kind at this point or salad or anything even remotely exotic. safeway chinese was about as far east as i had gone. i finally agreed although it must have been in an intoxicated state of some sort, because i DO NOT remember that conversation. i do remember going to the restaurant in SLC and getting this pot of hot broth to cook my rare beef in which was just too much. i think i added chow mein to my order or something.

fast forward to a few years later. NYC. manhattan. whoot whoot, right renae? i am pregnant with d-house, and once i get past the first 3 months of barfing water and rice krispies after every shower, all i want to eat is PHO, the vietnamese soup that mo & g are eating above. i think we go down towards china town at least once a week, try a different place and compare - because they are never the same. a bowl of soup is NOT just a bowl of soup - but eventually we find a favorite. dexter is half rice noodles, I am sure of it. we chase down our PHO with fancy mini cheesecakes from a place on Lafayette.

fast foward a few more years. it is lilli's first birthday. what do i know she wants for her celebratory meal? PHO.

we are glad that our children are all half rice noodles.

Did not know that about George. Brooks loves Pho. Our favorite vietnamese place here in Richmond has a menu with about 25 pages. I always get the same thing....the V2. So if you EVER come our way....we are there!
